Hi, I’m Alex Beadle

I’m an Artist and Educator from the Isle of Man, working in Vancouver.

Since 2020 I’ve been practising oil painting with portraiture as my creative focus. I’m excited to share my passion for crafting expressive portraits with a wider community, creating meaningful artworks which last centuries.

My Approach

Live portraiture is about capturing a person during a unique moment in time.

Combining modern materials, classical techniques and contemporary art practices I aim to create an expressive document of the subject during the short time I spend in their presence.

I believe that authentic portraiture requires the artist to spend time with their subject, observe them and translate their likeness onto the canvas. The artwork is a collaboration between the artist and the sitter, facilitating an intimate image and preserving a moment in time.

All works are painted with high grade oil paint on sealed birch panels and are varnished with gallery grade products to create a painting which will last over 100 years.

Each portrait is painted from 3 consecutive 20 minute sittings with short breaks in between. If you are interested in my painting process I am happy to explain my materials and techniques during the breaks and show you my current works in progress.

A Gift that will Last a Lifetime

Whether the portrait is for yourself or someone else, I believe that everyone’s unique image deserves to be captured.

A Physical Rendering that says more than a Photograph

In the era of digital images and fast gratification I craft poignant images in the real world. Oil paint has a richness, texture and expressive nature which stands out in the modern world.
